Midewin is a breathtaking 19,000 restored habitat managed by the U.S. Forest Service. We'll explore the Hoff Road Trailhead area, which features open prairie and shrubland. We will be looking for: Yellow-billed Cuckoos, Orioles, Bell's Vireos,Yellow-breasted Chat, Dickcissel, grassland sparrows, and more.
We’ll meet in the parking lot for the W. Hoff Road Trailhead. See map above or the attached PDF. US Forest Service map. A red arrow points to the parking lot.
The walk is on gravel and natural surfaces (wood chips). There is a porta potty by the parking lot.
The bird walk is free and open to everyone. New birders are welcome! No registration required.

Theft Prevention Reminder: Lock your car and do not leave any valuables in your car when you go out in any forest preserve or natural area. There have been reports of thefts from cars at several preserve parking lots in the Chicagoland area.
COVID-19 SAFETY MEASURES
- Masks are optional for fully vaccinated participants. This could change if state or county COVID safety protection requirements change by the event date, e.g., masks become required for fully vaccinated people at an outdoor event.
- We request that anyone who is not fully vaccinated wear a face mask covering both nose and mouth
- If you are feeling ill or have any symptoms of COVID or have been exposed to anyone who has COVID, please play it safe for everyone involved and do not attend.
