Event Type: Bird Walk
Date: Sunday, May 8, 2022
Time: 7:30 am - 9:30 am
Location: Helmick Nature Preserve/Old Plank Rd Trail
Address: Central Ave south of U.S. Rt 30, Matteson, IL Map
Hope you can join us to look for herons, warblers, vireos, raptors, and more. Soras are here in May, though these secretive birds can be hard to see. We’ll walk by marshland, open water, grassy areas, and wooded sections.
We’ll meet at the corner of Central Ave and Miller Circle Drive. Park along the north side of Miller Circle Drive. Note: Miller Circle Drive loops around Matteson Auto Mall and intersects Central Ave twice. Meet at the southern intersection. Map.
The bird hike is on a paved path. There’s a porta potty where the path crosses Ridgeland Ave; however, the walk will not go that far west.
The bird walk is free and open to everyone. New birders are welcome! No registration required.
Leaders: Al Thomas and Michelle O’Connor
Last minute event changes: Occasionally weather or site conditions, such as a flooded path, necessitate a last minute cancellation. Use the form below to sign up for an event change notification. We’ll email you if this bird walk has to be cancelled.
