Event Type: Bird Walk
Date: Saturday, May 1, 2021
Time: 8:00 am - 10:00 am
Location: Cowles Bog at Indiana Dunes National Park
Address: 1450 North Mineral Springs Road, Dune Acres, IN Map

This Important Bird Area (IBA) area includes a pristine beach habitat, black oak savannah, and lowland forest of red maple and yellow birch. These diverse habitats attract a great variety of birds. We’ll look for wetland species including Gallinules, Rails, Soras, and Herons as well as Sandhill Cranes, Marsh and Sedge Wrens, Brown Creepers, Warblers, and more. The walk is on dirt paths.

We will meet at the North Parking lot. Turn North on Mineral Springs Road from either US 12 or US 20. Cross the tracks and keep going past the first parking lot (right by the railroad tracks). Look for the gravel entrance on the right just before the Dunes Acres entrance guard house. Follow the gravel road to the parking lot.

The bird walk is free and open to everyone. However, PREREGISTRATION is required and groups are limited to 8 people per leader due to COVID-19 precautions. The number of leaders per trip field varies.

If you register and later need to cancel, no problem. We're flexible! Each registration confirmation provides contact info.

TO REGISTER: Send an email to: thorncreekaudubon@gmail.com. Include the location & date of the field trip, your name, and your preferred email address. Within a few days, you’ll receive an email either confirming your registration or letting you know you’re on the wait list.
