The timing of this talk on spring warbler migration couldn’t be better. Warbler migration will be underway and that window in which we get to enjoy our spring warblers will end before we know it. The leaves on the trees will explode and many a birder will give up the search. A refresher on warbler identification can maximize our enjoyment during this all to brief segment of migration.
In this lecture we will take a close look at the spring warbler migration concentrating on field identification as well as migration sequence and foraging practices. We’ll also talk about why it’s a good idea to continue to search out those warblers even after the leaves have all popped out.
Denis Kania has been birding since the mid-1980s. He wishes that he had started earlier in life, but he has made up for lost time. Just about everything in Denis’s life is bird related. When not admiring birds in our local preserves or bird monitoring at Fermilab Denis organizes trips for friends and travels just about anywhere in the world. Most of his adventures have been in South America. He has also been focusing on Africa and SE Asia. Upcoming trips will include exploring Cuba, Indonesia, and Sri Lanka.
Denis teaches bird identification classes at the Morton Arboretum and has been doing so since 1997. Denis loves to teach and share information. His latest efforts involve an education channel on YouTube where he discusses all things bird related. Check them out. There are over 60 mini-tutorials available via the DuPage Birding Club (link to DBC YouTube). Denis has also worked with several agencies to present webinars on some of his favorite topics including hummingbirds, gardening for nature, Crane migration, and workshops on improving birding skills.
Everyone is welcome to attend this program!
